What should I do first when I find water damage?

Where is the main water shutoff in a Buckeye home?
In most homes it is on the front wall of the house, in the garage or near the water heater. There is also a shutoff in the meter box near the street.

Is it safe to stay in my home with water damage?

Drying and damage
How long does drying take?
Most homes take about three to five days. Concrete slabs, hardwood and thick cabinets can take longer. We measure moisture until everything reads dry.
Can I just use fans to dry my home?
Fans dry surfaces, but they rarely dry what is inside walls, under tile or inside cabinets. Buckeye's dry air can make a floor feel dry while the slab underneath is still wet.
Will you have to tear out my walls or floors?
Only what cannot be dried or is contaminated. Our goal is to save as much as possible. We explain what we recommend and why before anything is removed.
Can wet carpet be saved?
Often, if it was clean water and drying starts quickly. Carpet soaked by floodwater or sewage usually needs to be replaced.

Will mold come back after it is removed?
Not if the moisture source is fixed and the area is properly dried. Mold comes back when moisture comes back.
